Zubair was changing into his pyjamas and having trouble undoing his shirt buttons.  He said “but I can do up buttons by myself”.  Then after a moment “… and I can make the whole world cry”.

I was explaining to Reyes that, when I was growing up, I lived with my mother and my brother but my father lived somewhere else.  Without hesitation Reyes turned to her father and said “You’re a good fellow Daddy!”

Mummy: Reyes, you know when we get back from Delhi, you will go to your old creche only two days a week.  The other three days you will go to your new creche.

Reyes: Yeah, and there might be a naughty boy there.

Mummy: But the girls will probably be nice.

Reyes: Yeah, because girls are not naughty.  Girls are grumpy.  Madisson was grumpy today.  When she plays with Ashleigh or Maegan she says “I don’t want to play with you Reyes” but I say “we can all play together” and she just looks at me like this (grumpy face).

I was getting the baby ready for his bath and telling him “Oh, look at the beautiful baby”.  Reyes heard this and said “Where, Mummy?”  I said “Here, right in front of you. Look at him – so beautiful!”  She looked and immediately looked away, rolling her eyes and saying “Oh Mummy, put his clothes back on!!”

A little later he was in his bath and looking around the room with a frown on his face.  Given that his father and sister are usually out when he has his daily bath, I said to him ”You must be thinking what are all these people doing in my bathroom?”.  Reyes hears this and replies “Eating cereal!”.

I was telling Reyes’s father what had transpired earlier when she had been playing with her friend Mara.  Mara had wanted to feed the dolly that Reyes was feeding.  I knew Mara had already had a turn and Reyes had patiently waited her turn.  Mara started to cry so I said let’s find other dollies to feed.  I went off to another room to collect some dollies.  When I got back Reyes had already handed her favourite dolly back to Mara and was ready to accept one of the new dollies.  “See Daddy” I said, knowing Reyes was listening, “Reyes was SUCH a good friend”. 

Reyes pipes up and tells her father “… and when I hit Madisson at creche, I say sorry!”

Baby is lying on the bed and toddler places her dolly next to him for him to play with.  Toddler watches for a while then says “Brother likes Britney”.  After another moment she says “and I like brother”.  I see an opportunity and say “and Britney likes you – that’s what we call a love triangle!”.  Quick as a flash she says “and you love me Mummy, so now it’s a love square!”.

Dad: “You’d better go to the toilet now so I can take you to the zoo”

Toddler: “I don’t want to go to the toilet Daddy”

Dad: “Well you have to go before we leave.  I’ve been already, so now it’s your turn.”

Toddler: “Mummy has already been to the toilet, so I can stay home and SHE can go to the zoo!”

I told my toddler I’m going to have a shower. She said she wanted to come… “but wait Mummy, let me put on my party hat”.  She disappears into her room and comes back with a pair of underpants on her head.

Well I now have a blog (thank you dear brother) but what to do with it?

Maybe I’ll start with little quotes from my toddler.  She’s more entertaining than I.  Here’s one that came out just now:

“I’m 2, and got 2 freckles.  One here on my arm and the other one down there on my bottom.”
