What a sweet kid we have. Mum was really moved with this suprize from school.
Since I have a week of school and need to practice writing I decided to write a little message to my brother today. Here it is. . .

I can’t remember so far back but I don’t think that 7-8 year olds were doing such complicated dictation at school. Maybe someone who supervised me at school can can correct me?
I can’t go into the details of what the mistakes were because I really have no idea. My Russian reading is OKish with the big letters but the little ones get confusing. I mean take a look at the last word in the picture below right, what the hell is that? Well I can tell you, it says ‘mishi’ which means many mice!
The other day Richard digging in his cupboards unearthed a mask that we used in a fancy dress management party a few years back. It is a pretty tame mask really but when you aren’t expecting to see it on someone it does take you by suprize. So Richard prancing around the house creeping up on people and scaring them seemed pretty funny from his perspective until. . . .
Now he knows better not to scare people! We had a prett long day today. The day started out with three early school lessons to catch up on the four days that we missed last week after our car tour around the Golden Ring. The lessons when down well enough that he earnt himself to a trip to the movies to catch the latest Mr. Bean. For dinner we had a massive bowl of Spag Bol which took a bit longer to make than expected. So by the time it and the strawberry ice cream desert (unusual treat) were gone we had one tired kid on our hands. Unfortunately our tired kid had trouble getting to sleep. To isolate him from the sound of the TV and my tapping on the computer we put him down in our room. About an hour later we crept in to check on him and straigt away he rolled over and said “counting sheep doesn’t help!” What a sweet kid! Mum advised him to try with his eyes closed and within 3 minutes it did the trick. Nigh-night Richard. This morning Elena walked Richard to school. The usual way it goes is that whoever walks him to school carries his bag until they get close to the school grounds. Then there is a pit stop where he takes of his hat and gloves and puts on his school bag to look ‘cool’ when he arrives. Today went just as planned except during the pit stop a cute little girl from his class poked her head inbetween Elena and Ricahrd smiling at Richard without saying a word. She then turned and hopped off to school. Richard with his usual little boy vs little girl aggression said something under his breath. When Elena questioned him about why he isn’t nice to the little girl he said he said “nothing, I’ve just had enough of her and her chocolates and candies every day!” Aparently her name is Dina and he has complained to Babuliya before that she isn’t a girl she is just Dina. Let’s wait to see how he likes Dina in 10-12 years! This morning on the way out the door to school Richard picked a rose from the vase near the front door and proudly said that he will take it to school (it is pretty normal to take flowers to shcool for various occassions although today wasnt one of them). With this Babuliya asked ‘will you give it to Katiya?’ [the girl that sits next to him in class]. Without saying a word Richard shoved the rose back in the vase with fantastic negative emotion and left the apartment. Actions speak a thousand words!
Well it has started early. As Richard’s milk teeth have been dropping they have been replaced by not only game boy games from the tooth fairy but also crooked shiny new big teeth. On a recent visit to the dentist we were advised to start using an appliance called a T4k Trainer. As advised we started out slowly for an hour a day and stayed that way! While it is in he can’t talk so while he is doing homework is a great time. The other good time is before bed while being read to. Tonight we all thought that it was the first time he had actually fallen asleep with it in (as he is supposed to do when it gets comfortable) but alas we were wrong. He had actually managed to sneak downstairs from his top level bunk and put the trainer back in it’s box! Kid wins again.
After a scary interview with the director where Richard clammed up only managing to wisper a few answers to the easiest of questions we took a look at the sports hall. The director was searching for other skills in the kid which may make up for his apparent lack of speaking skills and then we found English. As soon as this was known we were in, with only the medical exams to go!
New shoes, uniform, books, bag, and suit for the first big day! Just a matter of waiting now. Roll on September 1st! Richard has just started calling me at work now to find out when I am coming home. He hits the speed dial for my mobile and voila, he can speak with me! Today he called me to ask what I was doing. I told him that I was going to have dinner in the restaurant at work. Very excitedly he asked if he could come to as he likes restaurants. I told him that this is a restaurant for grown ups (inside a casino) so he can’t come. Thinking quickly he asked if it would be possible for me to move the office to Mcdonalds so he can come and have dinner with me. What a nice thoughtful kid. Just now I was quietly reheating some coffe in the microwave and Babuliya was minding her own business tidying up in the bathroom. Out of the blue Richard crept up on Babuliya and shouted BOO running away leaving Babuliya to catch her breath. He came into the kitchen very smugly and ready to share his excitement. Before he could get a word out I said, Richard that wasn’t very nice, why did you scare Babuliya like that. The smugness was replaced with seriousness and very matter of factly replied, “because I can’t scare Mummy like that, she always knows it’s me!” Well, we haven’t written for a while here and it took an even to make it happen too! Today we were getting ready for dinner and a puzzle wouldn’t go together. This was a bit upsetting in itself but then when Mummy made me come in for dinner and I told her something that perhaps I shouldn’t have. I told her not to parent me!. It got worse later when I was talking to Babuliay. I said “Babuliya, did you see the tears rolling down my face and falling on the floor? Mummy doesn’t know how to behave well with kids!”. Later I had some milk in bed, came out and ate my dinner. After that I started talking to Papa like nothing happened. He said that I should speak with Mummy first. I spoke nicely with Mummy and now we are friends again. I should be a good boy I think! During our taco making session this evening we clarified what makes a clever person and what doesn’t. We aren’t sure how the conversation came about but along the way it went like this. P. you are pretty clever aren’t you Richard, you can speak English and Russian. Kids today huh? |
