The battle fields of Gallipoli are on the north-west side of the straits known as the Dardanelles. The WW1 battlefields of Gallipoli are situated about 15 kms from Çanakkale. We will stay in Canakkale where there is plenty of accommodation for travellers to Gallipoli and Troy. Tours of the battlefields depart daily from ANZAC House Youth Hostel. The daily tour proceeds by ferry across the part of the Dardenelles known as the Narrows, which is less then one kilometre across. The ferry pulls in at the small fishing village of Kilitbahir, known for its fort built in 1453 by 'Mehmet II the Conqueror' as a part of his successful siege of Constantinopole. The tour meets our air-conditioned tour bus and proceeds to the battlefield area and visits:- * Kabatepe Museum
