Istanbul is a very modern city situated partly in Europe and partly in Asia. With a population of around 12 million, it is the most densely populated urban centre in Turkey. The city's name was officially changed from Constantinople to Istanbul in 1930; until A.D. 330 it was known as Byzantium. The main tourist attractions are located on the European
side of the city. Most residents live on the Asian side and work on the
European side. There are only two bridges that connect both sides of
the city. |
